Rick Cochrane, Owner

From a young age, Rick had a passion for discovering how things work. At the age of 8, he was found in the garage one summer afternoon with the family lawn mower almost completely disassembled, the next summer he had his own Workbench, tool set and prescribed items he was allowed to work on. Interested in electronic technology Rick enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and choose to work in the communications field. In Communications Rick worked to design, install, connect and operate the networks and information systems the Marine Corps relies on. Rick specialized in satellite communications & fiber optic systems.

In 2010 while serving in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom Rick earned the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. The Medal was for engineering a radio antenna he used to intercept Taliban communications in a way that was previously unexploited. After 5 years of honorable service Rick left the Marine Corps to pursue a college degree. Rick graduated from Eckerd College in St. Pete Florida earning bachelor’s degree with majors in Psychology and Sociology. During his years in college, Rick discovered he had a passion for teaching and especially enjoyed working with children.

Fueled by his desire to teach and inspire learning coupled with his passion for technology, Rick started an Engineering for Kids franchise in Sarasota.
