Virtual April Break Camps 2021

Minecraft Design Camp

In partnership with the City of Richmond Hill

undefined

At this camp, campers build their very own Minecraft amusement parks!

Campers will have to navigate a few engineering and teamwork challenges, to do so, campers will draft blueprints and plans for their parks on paper before beginning to create it in Minecraft to make it as much like the process of designing a real amusement park as possible. Campers will require to have a Minecraft account for the computer.

Camp Requirements:

  • In this camp we will be using Minecraft JAVA which is only compatible with PC (Windows) & MacBook (MacOS). So, families need to have either of these devices available for their children.
  • Campers may use their own Minecraft account for PC. If students do not have their Minecraft PC account, they can choose one of the below options:
    1. Purchase their own permanent account here.
    2. Engineering For Kids will share a temporary username & Password which can be used only during the class. This option should be communicated by email (yorkregion@engineeringforkids.com) at least 4 days before the start date.

Further details on how to join the online classroom will be communicated with enrolled families.

Coding Game Design Camp

In partnership with the Town of Aurora

Coding Game Design

This program will have the campers to become software engineers (Programmers) and code their very own video game that can be played over and over! Campers will use the Engineering Design Process to create a storyboard to identify and capture the rules of play and characters for the game. Then, by using the Game Design Software (Coding platform), they bring the storyboard to life. At the end of the program, everyone takes home a working Electronic game.

Camp requirements:

  • Computer / Windows
  • Solid Internet

  • Age: 8 - 12
  • Date: Monday – Friday, April 12 - 16, 2021
  • Time: 1 - 4 pm

Treasure Hunt /Marine Engineering Workshop

In partnership with the City of Richmond Hill

Swimming Kelvin

Campers are amazed by the wonders of the ocean deep. Campers learn about Jacques Costeau and all his wonderful designs that helped him and others explore the ocean below. Campers create their very own Cartesian diver and work to uncover buried treasure.

Widget Spinner/ Mechanical Engineering Workshop

In partnership with the City of Richmond Hill

Widget Spinner

With the Fidget Spinner, there is a great opportunity for campers to become familiar with Newton’s Law of Inertia. This lesson has capers creating, predicting, and testing the change in motion due to adding unbalanced weights to their self-created take-home Widget Spinner!

Scrapping the Sky/ Civil Engineering Workshop

In partnership with the City of Richmond Hill

EFK Students

In the Scraping the Sky Workshop, students will investigate the basics of skyscraper construction. Students will have the opportunity to construct a skyscraper individually by using a variety of materials.

Engineering For Kids Virtual "Racing Car Workshop"

racing car

At this hands-on workshop, students create a car that uses air pressure to move! This toy racing car will show students how driving or resisting forces act on the wheel and axle.

In this workshop, young engineers will use the Engineering Design Process as they predict, test, and improve their design!

This program will require an activity kit, which will need to be picked up by the parents from the dedicated community centre, before the workshop date.

  • Age: 4 - 7
  • Date: Monday, April 12, 2021
  • Time: 10 – 11:45 pm

Engineering For Kids Virtual "Junior Aerospace Workshop"

racing car

At this hands-on workshop, Junior Aerospace Engineering workshop, we will introduce our youngest engineers to fundamental concepts of aircraft and spacecraft design.

Through open and focused exploration, students explore and construct some flying machines!

This program will require an activity kit, which will need to be picked up by the parents from the dedicated community centre, before the workshop date.
