Lava Lamp – Chemical Engineering
Spark your child’s curiosity and ignite their passion for science with an unforgettable journey through the captivating world of chemical engineering. In this camp, students will learn the three states of matter. Then, they will use the EFK Engineering Design Process to create a lava lamp using a chemical reaction.

Glow in the Dark Dough – 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Students will have the opportunity to make their own playdough using simple household materials. Students will learn how1 different materials react chemically and how they can change the physical properties of their Presto-Chango Dough that glows in the dark

Senior Ages 8 – 12
Robotics
Reactor Robot 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Students will explore how developing automated robotic systems in nuclear power plants could make them a safer, more viable option for environmentally friendly energy production. They will be able to describe the components in their robotic kits and name the pieces as they build their first robot. Then they will use the EFK Engineering Design Process to program their robot to perform important tasks in the nuclear power plant by writing code for the given path.

Recycling Robots 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
The Enviro Bots are off to the recycling centre! In this lesson, students will describe the process of machine learning and explain how it relates to AI. They will build a recycling machine that includes the color sensor and at least 2 motors. Then they will use the EFK Engineering Design Process to program their machine to sort at least 4 different types of materials.

Junior Ages 4 – 7
Bringing in the Machines 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
During this lesson students will understand that simple machines are tools to make work easier. Demonstrate the properties of pulleys and inclined planes, construct and operate a pulley delivery system for use in a simulated construction site. Recognize some everyday objects as inclined planes

Building Roads & Tunnels 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Thomas the Train and Disney’s movie Cars highlight how mesmerizing transportation is to children. Building Roads explores how civil engineers work together to plan and build roads and tunnels across various terrains.

Electrical Workshop
Light-up Greeting Card 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
This is an illuminating experience you don’t want to miss. Students will learn the fundamentals of electricity and how to create a circuit. Students will construct a simple, series and parallel paper circuit, that can successfully light one or more LED bulbs. They will apply what they have learned while using the EFK Engineering Design Process to create a light-up greeting card.

Using Snap Circuits, students will explore other ways to build a circuit. Recognize symbols used on a circuit and understand the importance of checking a circuit before turning it on

Space Pioneers – (Coding)
Embark on fun journey to space with Scratch! Send an astronaut to the moon and defend your moon base from space rocks. Learn how to use Scratch to create and program sprites, backdrops and basic scripts. Create new programs and be inspired to explore the universe of programming as a Space Pioneer.

Turbine Frenzy – Exploring the Power of Wind and Water
Making Waves Hydro Turbine (Marine Engineering)
During this lesson students will construct a working hydro turbine. They will demonstrate Newton’s Third Law of Motion, which states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, by using naturally flowing water to create rotary motion.
Wind Turbine Design (Electrical)
In this lesson, students will learn the difference between a windmill and a wind turbine. They will learn how a wind turbine uses mechanical energy within a generator and build their own working model. They will use the EFK Engineering Design Process to design, build and attach blades that generate the greatest electrical output possible. They will learn how to use a multimeter to measure the voltage being produced. The team that has the greatest electrical output wins.
