Pickering Spring & Summer Camps Ages: 4-7

Jr Scratch & Makey Makey Musical

When your favorite song comes on the radio, do you sit quietly or do you dance around and play the air drum solo? In Musical Adventures With Scratch and Makey Makey, we are going to explore how different sounds are created. We will make our own interpretations of common musical instruments, such as drums, piano, guitar, and even a recorder. We will create our own dancing program, utilising Makey Makey and Scratch to bring our music to life! The last day will end with a bang, or at least a really great mini-concert from all of our students!

Summertime Splash

Get ready to ignite curiosity and learning this summer! Our Summertime Splash curriculum will immerse students in the wonders of the season, from the vibrant sights and sounds of nature to the science behind summer adventures. Through hands-on engineering challenges, students will explore topics like solar energy, outdoor recreation, and fascinating weather phenomena. With each activity, they’ll engage in creative problem-solving and discover the fun behind the science of summer. This season is bursting with opportunities for exploration, and we can’t wait to spark excitement and curiosity in your students!

Playful Playground

In this camp, students will become mechanical engineers hired to design the ultimate playground in their community. Playgrounds are packed full of simple machines such as levers, wheels and axles, inclined planes, and pulleys. In these lessons, students will learn about the simple machines they encounter every day at the playground, while advancing their literacy skills through a variety of read-alouds. They will tackle fun and engaging challenges while using the EFK Engineering Design Process. We can’t wait to play!

Chem Kids

Spark your child’s curiosity and ignite their passion for science with an unforgettable journey through the captivating world of chemical engineering. Through playful activities and creative experiments, students will unravel the mysteries of matter. From fizzing chemical reactions to dazzling color changes, they’ll delight in the magic of transformation as they learn about atoms, molecules, and the forces that drive these reactions. Zany Zoo Engineers

There is a big problem at your local zoo; the animals are very unhappy. They have outgrown their cages and are bored by their basic, concrete surroundings. In these lessons, students will learn about engineering, mathematics, animals, and habitats while advancing their literacy skills through a variety of read-alouds. They will work as zoo engineers and zoologists, utilising the EFK (Engineering Design Process) to design and build solutions to various engineering challenges.

Jr. Space Pioneers

Embark on a fun journey to space with Scratch! Send an astronaut to the moon and defend your moon base from space rocks. Learn how to use Scratch to create and program sprites, backdrops and basic scripts. Create a new program each day, leave with evidence of your wild space adventure, and be inspired to explore the universe of programming as a Space Pioneer.

Let’s Make Toys

In the Junior Mechanical Engineering: Let’s Make Toys classes, our youngest engineers will be introduced to fundamental concepts of energy, materials, and movement. Students will explore and construct six different toys throughout this unit, including spinners, magical boomerang cans, wind-up whirligigs, and more.

Aerospace: Taking to the Skies

Ozobot Explorers

Join us for an exciting journey in robotics engineering that transforms coding from complex to fun! In this program, kids will embark on hands-on adventures with tiny, versatile Ozobot robots, mastering programming basics through interactive play. Students will develop skills in foundational coding concepts using colour codes to program their robots, such as creating sequences, recognising patterns, and problem-solving through hands-on exploration —all while unleashing their creativity to solve problems and build innovative solutions.
